Child and adolescent psychiatric research is improving. Cohort studies with substantial sample sizes are no more an exception. Measurement tools are refined and adapted to specific age periods. Results have not been long in coming and we now have good evidence that many mental disorders in children and adolescents are statistically associated with soft and early signs and symptoms. Three papers are dealing with this question in this issue of ECAP [
