Shortly after Morton et al.
1 introduced the modern sentinel node concept and described its successful application to stage the regional lymphatics (cN0) of cutaneous melanoma, sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) was adapted for other solid malignancies that spread via the lymphatics. We described the universal application of this technique in multiple solid tumors including gastric carcinoma in 1998.
