Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, aggressive cutaneous malignancy of neuroendocrine derivation [
1]. While the factors influencing disease-specific survival (DSS) in MCC have been well-studied, non-cancer related causes of mortality in MCC patients are less clear. Indeed, while the 5-year DSS of MCC is 73%, the 5-year overall survival is 42%,[
