Spine symptoms are caused by structures having either intrinsic innervation, or acquiring innervation as a result of repair. Mechanical compression and deformity of nerve roots as a cause of pain and nerve dysfunction is the traditional concept, and dates to the observations of Mixter and Barr [1]. This concept of direct neural compression as a cause has morphed into immunobiologic and cellular based mechanisms. …
