Principles of Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

Diabetes is epidemic and its increasing prevalence affects all aspects of society. While some populations are at higher risk for diabetes and may be more prone to the complications of diabetes, this is a disease that has no boundaries and can affect anyone at any point in one’s lifetime. The growing burden of diabetes in the United States mirrors that which is occurring around the world and will lead to an increasing financial burden from not only direct costs to society but indirect costs, including overall health status of individuals.
