Abstract
Proper access to the hip is imperative for safe, effective arthroscopy. Thoughtful technique is essential for entering the joint in an atraumatic fashion. Positioning the portals properly is critical in order to effectively reach and treat various disorders that reside within the hip. This chapter details routine access to the central compartment and various techniques for accessing the peripheral compartment. In addition, details are provided on iliopsoas bursoscopy and endoscopic access to the peritrochanteric and subgluteal spaces. Detailed descriptions are given with illustrative case examples.
