Abstract
LCPD is an idiopathic avascular necrosis of the femoral head characterised by hip pain or reduced hip movements in children aged between 4 and 8. Plain AP and lateral radiographs are usually sufficient to make the diagnosis. Although the management of LCPD is controversial the main goals of treatment are to retain femoral head sphericity and maintain hip range of motion. Prognosis depends on the age of onset and the extent of femoral head involvement.
