Evaluation of and Planning for Acquired Upper-Limb Amputee Rehabilitation

  • Chapter
Comprehensive Management of the Upper-Limb Amputee

Abstract

The person who has had an amputation of one or both arms suffers a sudden loss of function, with damage and distortion of his body image. The extent of these losses should be the initial focus of the health care professional who is evaluating an amputee for rehabilitation needs. The extent of insult to the amputeeā€™s psyche and his ability to perform essential daily activities at work, at play, or at home must be calculated.
