  • Chapter
Handbook of Mental Health and Acculturation in Asian American Families

Part of the book series: Current Clinical Psychiatry ((CCPSY))

Abstract

In this chapter, we define and discuss the concepts of acculturation and enculturation, as well as theories and research on the consequences of acculturation and enculturation for Asian American families. We also explore the roles acculturation and enculturation play on parent–child values gap and family conflict, the role of cognitive flexibility in this relationship, and clinical implications of the findings.
