Abstract
Der Beitrag befasst sich mit der Frage, was das Unterhaltungserleben als Wirkung der Rezeption medialer Inhalte ausmacht. Dazu werden notwendige Bedingungen für die Entstehung einer Unterhaltungserfahrung und grundsätzliche Merkmale eines Unterhaltungsgefühls erläutert. Zunächst werden positive Gefühle wie Genuss und Vergnügen als ein Kern des Unterhaltungserlebens diskutiert. Danach wird dargelegt, dass Unterhaltung ein komplexes Phänomen ist, das von den Beziehungen und Wechselwirkungen zwischen Individuum, Stimulus und Situation abhängt. Daran anknüpfend wird auf die Möglichkeiten der Verarbeitung negativer Emotionen eingegangen, insbesondere auf die Entstehung positiver Metaemotionen. Abschließend wird gezeigt, dass es auch als unterhaltsam empfunden werden kann, selbstbestimmte, spielerische Situationen aktiv zu bewältigen.
