Abstract
Der Begriff der Informationsverarbeitung wird in vielfältiger Weise in der Kommunikationswissenschaft gebraucht. Meist bezeichnet er die Selektion bedeutsamer Reize – Informationen – in ihrem Zeitverlauf über verschiedene Stadien hinweg. Dieser Beitrag behandelt exemplarisch die psychologische Informationsverarbeitung im Kontext der Rezeption von Medieninhalten. Es werden zunächst die psychologischen Grundlagen betrachtet, um diese anschließend auf die Rezeption von Medieninhalten zu übertragen. Darüber hinaus wird die Messung von Informationsverarbeitungsprozessen thematisiert. Als Ausblick werden einzelne kommunikationswissenschaftliche Konzepte vorgestellt, in denen die Informationsverarbeitung als Prozess eine Rolle spielt oder aber das Ergebnis von Informationsverarbeitungsprozessen bedeutsam ist.
