Abstract
The piso-triquetral joint is a common site of ulnar-sided wrist pain. This arises either in the flexor carpi ulnaris tendon, the stabilising ligaments or the joint itself. The number of pathological conditions affecting the joint and amenable to arthroscopic treatment is limited. The technique is still in the early stages of development, and more anatomic studies are needed to improve the access. The best way to visualise the joint is through the communication from the radio-carpal joint, though this is only available in about 70 % of patients. At the moment, the main use of arthroscopy is to confirm the diagnosis and the degree of articular surface damage when imaging is equivocal and there is communication from the main joint. Loose bodies can be removed arthroscopically. Future advances include developing new portals and maybe therapeutic techniques like arthroscopic-assisted piso-triquetral arthrodesis, full or partial pisiformectomy and interpositional arthroplasty.
