Abstract
Today mobile bearing knee arthroplasty is known throughout the world of orthopaedics and probably has become the new “state of the art” of knee replacement. Two of the most important challenges of total knee arthroplasty, wear of polyethylene and mechanical loosening of components, were resolved by the introduction of mobile bearings, which had congruity to overcome the problem of high contact stresses causing wear, and which were mobile to eliminate constraint forces and so to reduce mechanical loosening.
