Abstract
In deciding on the type of treatment for a specific fracture, the surgeon must use as a basis, to a lesser or greater degree, the morphological features of the fracture. We felt therefore that if a classification were to be useful for a surgeon as a guide to treatment, it had to embody the essence of these morphological features. Thus we began with an analysis of the different bones in order to establish some common features shared not only by the fractures of the diaphyses but also by the fractures of the end segments, that is the metaphyses and epiphyses.
