Zusammenfassung

Weltweit wurden bis heute schätzungsweise über 10000 Cochlea-Implantate (CI) eingesetzt, in zunehmendem Maß bei Kleinkindern. Obwohl noch nicht alle Aspekte dieser noch jungen medizintechnischen Errungenschaft vollständig geklärt sind, wurde mittlerweile ein technologischer Reifegrad erreicht, welcher gekennzeichnet ist durch hohe Zuverlässigkeit, große Erfolgschancen und geringe Komplikationsraten. Die aktuelle Forschung und Entwicklung zielt auf die weitere Verbesserung und Optimierung der Sprachverständlichkeit sowie vereinfachtere und objektivere Methoden der Prozessoranpassung.
