Abstract

The field of child and adolescent psychiatry in Estonia is guided by Estonian “Law of Psychiatric Care” (1997) including the prevention of mental disorders, their diagnosis, treatment, psychological and social rehabilitation. Child and adolescent psychiatry is not at this time an independent specialty in Estonia. Thus, there are no special child and adolescent psychiatric hospitals or policlinics, and for that reason almost all child psychiatrists are working at general psychiatric hospitals and policlinics. Although their main activities concern child psychiatry, they must take part in duty work of general psychiatric institutions as well.
