Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors

Abstract

This is constituted by an accumulation of cells due to either accelerated proliferation or slowed maturation and degeneration. The hyperplasia is caused by a stimulus, and it ceases when the stimulus is exhausted. The hyperplasia is functional: as such, it tends to be characterized by an organized or organoid structure, with cells and structures that differentiate and mature completely, and which are accompanied by blood vessels according to a specific spatial order. Typical examples of hyperplasia are exuberant bone calluses, tumor-like muscular and periosteal ossifications, brown tumors in hyperparathyroidism osteosis, and, probably, aneurysmal bone cyst, pigmented villonodular synovitis, synovial chondromatosis.
