«Emerging Adulthood»: Forschungsbefunde zu objektiven Markern, Entwicklungsaufgaben und Entwicklungsrisiken
Abstract
This paper presents characteristics of the newly discovered development phase “emerging adulthood” (18 to 30 years) and then summarizes research findings on key development tasks such as leaving home, partnership, occupation and identity development, focusing on German studies and statistics. Despite the increase in the length of time allotted to the realization of certain development tasks, the new challenges leads to a significant development pressure and fear of the future, which is manifested in an increased symptomatology. Children and youth as well as adult psychiatry/psychotherapy must develop new models to deal with these challenges in an integrative way.
