Abstract

Coxsackie A-9 virus was found to be the etiological agent in 10 out of 321 clinical cases of poliomyelitis in infants and children of Delhi during 1976–82. Serological surveys carried out in infants and children of Delhi below 12 years showed coxsackie A-9 viral antibodies from the age of 3 months. In the age group of 5–12 years, 93·7 per cent had antibodies against this virus denoting the widespread prevalence of this virus and its ubiquitous nature like polio viruses.
