Estimación de los costes de los cuidados informales asociados a enfermedades neurológicas de alta prevalencia en España

Resumen

Objetivos: El objetivo de este trabajo es estimar los costes de los cuidados informales recibidos por personas que padecen una enfermedad neurológica de elevada prevalencia (accidente cerebrovascular, demencia [incluyendo enfermedad de Alzheimer], enfermedad de Parkinson y esclerosis lateral y múltiple) en España, tomando como año de referencia el 2002.

Métodos: Se emplean los datos de la Encuesta de Discapacidades, Deficiencias y Estado de Salud (EDDES) para estimar el número de horas de cuidados informales asociados a las citadas enfermedades en personas no internadas. La valoración monetaria de dichas horas se realiza a través de varios salarios sombra, empleando el método del coste de sustitución o reemplazo.

Resultados: Los resultados del caso base estiman el coste de los cuidados informales en una horquilla que va de los 2.341 a los 3.632 millones de euros. Pese a emplearse un criterio conservador en la estimación, la cifra estimada representaría un coste equivalente a entre el 6,2% y el 9,6% del gasto sanitario del Sistema Nacional de Salud español del año 2002.

Conclusiones: Dadas las previsiones demográficas para la población española, así como la promulgación de la Ley de Promoción de la Autonomía Personal y Atención a las Personas en Situación de Dependencia, se recomienda la realización de una encuesta longitudinal a nivel nacional que permita avanzar en las lagunas que existen sobre las decisiones en el seno familiar asociadas a situaciones de dependencia.
