Abstract

This chapter discusses contemporary approaches to the treatment of patients with pilonidal disease. It covers the pathology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and a variety of approaches to the management of patients with pilonidal disease. Considered a frequently encountered problem, most patients present in the office setting as well as in the emergency room with an array of different clinical presentations and complications resulting from their disease. In addition, many surgeons’ approach to treatment varies depending on their experience, especially in the case of complicated disease, where there are many options one can offer. With a case presentation approach, this chapter will allow the reader to familiarize themselves with different clinical presentations of pilonidal disease and get a glimpse at the current and most recent literature regarding management for this disease.
