Acute Care General Surgery

Abstract

Understanding various pancreatic fluid collections can be difficult as the nomenclature and terminology can be confusing. Labeling the different entities according to consensus guidelines will enable the surgeon to methodically develop a diagnostic and management approach. Recent advances in endoscopic techniques and internal drainage have made surgical drainage procedures less common, yet the surgeon is often called upon to assist in management of this condition as well as associated factors such as traumatic injuries and gallstones.
