Zusammenfassung

Bereits im Jahre 1814 beschrieb Giovanni Batista Monteggia die heute nach ihm benannte Kombination aus proximaler Ulnafraktur und Radiusköpfchenluxation. Er stellte fest, dass es typischerweise im Bereich des Übergangs vom mittleren zum proximalen Drittels zur Ulnafraktur kommt und das Radiusköpfchen gleichzeitig nach anterior luxiert. Heute hat sich der Begriff „Monteggiaverletzung“ auch auf solche Frakturen ausgedehnt, die im Ulnaschaft oder im Bereich des Olekranons lokalisiert sind und mit einer Luxation, Subluxation oder Luxationsfraktur im Humeroradialgelenk verbunden sind (s.u.). Da Monteggiaverletzungen bei inadäquater Behandlung zu ausgeprägten funktioneilen Defiziten im Ellenbogengelenk und Unterarm führen können, ist ihre Zuordnung zu den Ellenbogenverletzungen sinnvoll. Mit einer Inzidenz von ca. 2-5% der proximalen Unterarmfrakturen treten sie vergleichsweise selten auf. Männer und Frauen sind gleich häufig betroffen.
