Malleolar Fractures

  • Chapter
Manual of INTERNAL FIXATION

Abstract

Although the ankle joint may be damaged by a direct force, such as a blow to the malleolus or a gunshot, the majority of malleolar fractures are indirect injuries resulting from subluxation or dislocation of the talus out of the ankle mortice. Certain fracture patterns are always associated with distinct ligamentous disruptions or their equivalent avulsion fractures of the ligamentous attachments.
