Partial reconstruction of the breast after necrosis following conservative treatment

Summary

Radionecrosis after conservative treatment (CT) for breast cancer is uncommon. It represents less than 1 % in the main series published in the literature [1, 2, 5, 6]. Modern techniques of radiotherapy may prevent spontaneous radionecrosis, provided that doses have been adequately calculated. However, sclerosis of a quadrant is more frequent especially after application of a boost on the tumor bed. Differential diagnosis between radiosclerosis and local recurrence can be difficult, leading to a surgical biopsy. Such surgery on a radiated breast may be the cause of a secondary radionecrosis, such as in the case which will be presented.
