Summary
We present clinical and pathologic data on a 14-year-old boy with bilateral dissecting aneurysms of the internal carotid and middle cerebral arteries. The case is unusual in that bilateral dissecting aneurysms of the intracranial vessels have not been described, and because the internal elastic lamina was focally absent in both intracranial and somatic arteries. This abnormality of the elastica has been described in association with internal carotid occlusion and telangiectasia of the basal ganglia, the moya-moya syndrome. The relation between dissecting carotid aneurysms and moya-moya is discussed.
