Abstract
The history and assumptions of the “medical” model are presented, and theories of abnormal behavior, based on the physiology of the organism, are reviewed. Research and theory focusing on the contribution of genetics, nutrition, neurotransmitters, and brain dysfunction are presented. The importance of considering the interaction between physiology and environment in understanding behavior is discussed.
