Abstract

Out of 18 adult patients (14 males and 4 females) with alcaptonuria and ochronosis, nephrolithiasis was found in 1 female and in 7 males, and prostatolithiasis in 11 of the 14 men. True prostatolithiasis with deposition of calculi in the prostatic gland was found in 9 of these 11. Two patients with false prostatolihiasis were detected with location of calculi in pars prostatica urethrae. These cases were verified by postmortem examination. Owing to the X-ray density of the calculi, the diagnosis was established easier by roentgenography than by digital examination. In the spermatic fluid of three of the men with alcaptonuria ochronotic coloration was found.
