Summary

In 12 patients suffering from primary open angle glaucoma and different sizes of visual field defects scotopic luminance-ERGs were recorded. Only patients that underwent fistulating glaucoma surgery and did not need additional drug therapy were included in the study.

Patients with minor visual field defects had normal bwaves and only slightly decreased oscillatory potentials (OPs). B-waves and OPs of patients with severe visual field defects showed significant lower amplitudes compared to an age matched control group.

Our results indicate that retinal damage exceeds the ganglion cell layer in patients with glaucoma.
