Secretion of a Chromaffin Granule Protein, Chromogranin, from the Adrenal Gland after Splanchnic Stimulation

Abstract

Banks and Helle1 have reported that stimulation of the isolated bovine adrenal gland, during retrograde perfusion, releases not only catecholamines but also a soluble protein present in the chromaffin granules; this finding has since been confirmed2,3. We propose the term “chromogranin(s)” as suitable for the soluble protein fractions of the chromaffin granules of the adrenal medulla.
