Multiple Antibiotic Resistance in a Bacterium with Suppressed Autolytic System

Abstract

Suppression of the activity of the cellular autolytic system of pneumococci causes simultaneous resistance against penicillin, D-cycloserine and phosphonomycin. This phenomenon represents a novel type of drug resistance mechanism in bacteria.
