School-related physical activity, lifestyle and obesity in children

Erik Sigmund, Dagmar Sigmundová

The monograph describes basic non-invasive means for long-term as well as short-term field-based monitoring of physical activity in children and adolescents with a focus on physical activity determinants and correlates that facilitate an effective reduction of overweight and obesity. It introduces the basic methods for field-based monitoring of physical activity, their technical parameters and possibilities, principles and accuracy, along with the benefits and drawbacks related to their practical use. Following a longitudinal monitoring study of physical activity in preschool children and younger school-aged children, the monograph offers educational and health-related recommendations to promote physically active and healthy lifestyles in children and youth.
