ESGE Postgraduate Grants Programme 2011

New extended program!

One of ESGE's goals has always been to improve endoscopic practice and training. Over the years ESGE has enabled many young endoscopists to visit experts and well recognized European units through the ESGE Postgraduate Grant Programme.

Recently, upon feedback both from host units and grantees, the ESGE Education Committee decided to further expand this successful programme by diversifying the type of grants to include hands-on training. Moreover, a new module for endoscopy unit' directors was created.

Module I – “Basic Training with Experts”

During a maximum of four weeks, depending on the unit and techniques studied, this module enables fully trained endoscopists or trainees to observe basic steps or to discuss refinements of specific techniques. Hands-on training is not offered to Module I grantees. Successful grantees will receive a recommendation from their host unit which will enable them to apply for the Module II postgraduate grant.

Module II – “Training with Experts”

Module II includes hands-on training for specific techniques during a period of 3 to 6 months, depending on the number of procedures involved and on the expertise of the host unit. Applicants should have completed a Module I Grant and received a recommendation from the host unit.

Applicants of Modules I or II must be below the age of 40 as of January 1, 2011 and a high proficiency in English, French or German is essential. Economy travel will be reimbursed, basic hospital/university accommodation will be organised by the ESGE Secretariat and upkeep will be provided. Applicants should have their own private health insurance and should indicate on their application form if they have other sources of financial support that would not require reimbursement for travel and/or accommodation at the unit of their choice. After successful completion of each Module I or II, an ESGE certificate will be provided to grantees.

Module III – “Endoscopy Unit Directors' Module”

This Module is available to heads of endoscopic units wishing to visit leading units to observe organizational models for a maximum of one week. By implementing this Module, ESGE aims at facilitating non-formal institutional contacts and potentially improving formal multicenter collaborations. Successful applicants of the Endoscopy director unit module are expected to carry the costs of travel and accommodation themselves.

Online applications will be possible as of October 31, 2009 at www.esge.com. For further details please contact the ESGE secretariat.

Endoscopy units interested in becoming a host unit for one or all of these training modules, please contact Professor Mario Dinis-Ribeiro at mdinisribeiro@gmail.com
