Zusammenfassung

Leitlinien sind ein wichtiges Instrument zur Verbesserung und Sicherung der Qualität der medizinischen Versorgung. Sie sollen einen ständig aktualisierten Konsens auf dem Boden der aktuellsten wissenschaftlichen Daten darstellen. Die erstmals 2001 veröffentlichten Leitlinien der Deutschen STD Gesellschaft (DSTDG) zur Diagnostik und Therapie der Syphilis bedurften dringend einer Überarbeitung. In der vorliegenden Übersicht werden die von der DSTDG aktualisierten Leitlinien zur Syphilistherapie (Stand Oktober 2004) den sonstigen in Europa angewandten Leitlinien zur Therapie der Syphilis gegenübergestellt.

In einer retrospektiven Untersuchung haben Forschende aus Belgien und den Niederlanden die okkulte Form der Riesenzellarteriitis genauer unter die Lupe genommen. In puncto Therapie und Rezidivraten stellten sie keinen sehr großen Unterschied zu Erkrankten mit kranialen Symptomen fest.
