Zusammenfassung

Das Kniegelenk ist in vielen Sportarten eine der am häufigsten verletzten Körperregionen. Insbesondere im Spitzensport handelt es sich bei Knieverletzungen oft um schwere Läsionen, die Ausfallzeiten von mehreren Wochen oder Monaten generieren und die Karriere der Athleten maßgeblich beeinflussen können. Neben der akuten Verletzung spielen häufige Rezidive und die Langzeitfolgen bzw. die Folgeschäden sowie eine oftmals anhaltende hohe Belastung des Kniegelenks eine wichtige Rolle im Spitzensport. Ein Verständnis für die Verletzungsumstände ebenso wie die Identifikation von Risikofaktoren im Sinne der Primärprävention sind daher unabdingbar. Weiterhin ist ein umfassendes Verständnis für die strukturellen Schäden nach einer Verletzung notwendig, um die therapeutischen Eingriffe fortwährend zu verbessern. In den vergangenen Jahren hat die rasante technologische Entwicklung beträchtlich dazu beigetragen, die Gesamtzahl der Knieverletzungen vollständiger zu erfassen und ihr Entstehen besser zu verstehen. Durch die schnelle Verbesserung neuerer therapeutischer und insbesondere chirurgischer Verfahren gelingt es der Medizin zunehmend, Spitzensportlern zu ermöglichen, auch bei komplexen Verletzungen ihre vorangegangene Leistungsfähigkeit wieder zu erlangen. Gleichwohl benötigen Berufs- und Spitzensportler in besonderem Maße individuell angepasste Therapiemöglichkeiten und Rehabilitationsmaßnahmen, um ihnen eine schnelle Rückkehr zum Sport zu ermöglichen.
