Reading a medical monograph is not always a treat to be savored. It rarely is a treat at all, because many are too dry, some too light and flavorless and others downright poisonous. As a book reviewer for this journal, I have spared you many of the latter. It is my pleasure to bring your attention to Dr. Hamlet Peterson’s Epiphyseal Growth Plate Fractures. I opened the book with some dread when it arrived. It is no short walk. But with 2,000 well-reproduced images, drawings, and tables the chapters passed quickly. Dr. Peterson’s devotion to this topic and to his patients saturates the pages of this book. It might be possible to absorb facts from outlines and dry description, but inspiration can only be transmitted by the inspired. The topic inspires Peterson and by force of will it can inspire you. …
