A 70-year-old man developed methaemoglobinaemia following off-label use of rasburicase for chronic gout. The man was initiated on rasburicase infusion [dosage not stated] following a failure to re-initiate urate-lowering treatment, leading to elevated serum uric acid levels of 798 µmol/L, urinary urate excretion of 3328 µmol/24hours and development of new tophi, affecting the functioning of his hands. He developed methaemoglobinaemia following his second infusion of rasburicase [outcome not stated]. …
