Cytoreductive surgery is the backbone of ovarian cancer treatment and often requires a rectosigmoid resection given that the distal colon is often involved either by direct tumor infiltration or tumor implantation. Although rectosigmoid resection is one of the more common procedures needed to achieve a complete or optimal cytoreduction, it is also responsible for the highest rate of anastomotic leak (AL) among bowel resections.
