Lymphadenectomy (LND) is an essential part of surgery for gastric cancer.
1,2 It is performed following well-known anatomical landmarks, and its accuracy and completeness largely depends on surgeon attitude and experience. Preoperative endoscopic peritumoral injection of indocyanine green (ICG) and intraoperative lymph node visualization with near-infrared camera (NIR) have been repeatedly reported to facilitate LND and to increase the number of harvested lymph nodes.
3 Since preoperative ICG injection requires an endoscopy with its associated risks, costs, and patient discomfort, it is key to understand whether it is truly impacting clinical outcomes or whether it is only the consequence of performance bias. …
