Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are mesenchymal neoplasms that uncommonly present with lymphatic disease. Certain patient subgroups are known to have a higher risk for nodal metastases, including pediatric patients, those with succinate dehydrogenase (SDH)-deficient GISTs, and
KIT/
PDGFRA wild-type GISTs.
1,2 Currently, no GIST risk stratification nomograms incorporate nodal disease,
3 and consensus guidelines only recommend routine lymph node sampling for known SDH-deficient GISTs.
4 Predicting nodal metastases and better defining their clinical significance would be valuable in designing higher-fidelity risk stratification tools and directing the operative management of these patients. …
