Pruritus commonly underlies both dermatologic and non-dermatologic systemic disorders and can be as debilitating as chronic pain [
5]. Pruritus may be mediated in part by mast cells, which are also involved in neurogenic inflammation. Several studies show that compared with controls, mast cell are increased in number and more activated in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), with evidence suggesting an important role for mast cells in both conditions [
