Thank you for showing the pterygoalar and pterygospinous (PS) bony bars in children [
3]. We have a strong impression that the PS bar often or usually develops prenatally. As you cited, the bony bars have been considered as a phylogenetic remnant [

6]. Actually, von Lüdinghausen and his colleagues [
6] demonstrated that rodents, carnivore and herbivora always carry the bony bar or lamina. However, the same research group also demonstrated an absence of the PS bar in new-world monkeys compared to the constant observations in old-world monkeys. In this letter, we try to postulate an embryological viewpoint for a better understanding of the likely difference between species. …
