Postpolio-Syndrom

Zusammenfassung

Bei dem Postpolio-Syndrom handelt es sich um eine Folgeerkrankung der Poliomyelitis anterior acuta, die Jahre bis Jahrzehnte später auftritt. Sie äußert sich mit schlaffen Paresen der bereits von der Poliomyelitis anterior acuta betroffenen, aber auch von vorher nicht betroffenen Muskeln. Ziel dieser Studie war die Beschreibung der neurologischen und psychiatrischen Manifestation des Postpolio-Syndroms.
Die klinische Symptomatik, Behandlung und Verlauf wurden bei 16 Patienten unserer Klinik evaluiert. Das Vorliegen einer depressiven Episode wurde mit der „Hamilton Depression Scale“ und der „Geriatric Depression Scale“ abgeschätzt. Das Postpolio-Syndrom trat im Median mit 57,5 Jahren auf (25–73 Jahre). Die zeitliche Latenz zur Kinderlähmung lag im Median bei 41 Jahren (16–70 Jahre). Die bereits von der Kinderlähmung betroffenen Muskeln waren bei allen Patienten durch das Postpolio-Syndrom erneut betroffen. 6 von 16 Patienten (37,5%) hatten Paresen in von der Kinderlähmung nicht betroffenen Muskeln. Bei 8 von 15 Patienten (53%) bestand eine depressive Episode gemäß ICD-10.
Depressive Symptome bei Postpolio-Patienten sollten berücksichtigt werden und in das therapeutische Konzept neben intensiver Physiotherapie einfließen.
