Rolle des Mikrobioms bei der Entwicklung des Diabetes

Zusammenfassung

Die technologische Entwicklung in der molekularen Genetik machte es in den vergangenen Jahren möglich, komplexe Bakterienpopulationen über Genomteilsequenzierung zu analysieren. Damit lassen sich nahezu alle – nicht nur kultivierbare – Darmbakterien erfassen. Aufgrund dieses technologisch-analytischen Fortschritts konnten zahlreiche Studien zum Mikrobiom in einem gesunden Organismus, aber auch zu dessen Bedeutung bei chronischen Erkrankungen durchgeführt werden. Zusammenfassend ist eine hohe Artenvielfalt (Diversität) eher mit Gesundheit, eine Abnahme derselben eher mit Krankheitsentstehung assoziiert. Darmbakterien können über 2 verschiedene Mechanismen mit Diabetes assoziiert sein: Zum einen können sie unverdauliche Nahrungsbestandteile fermentieren, damit diese in den Organismus aufgenommen werden können („energy harvest theory“), zum anderen können sie chronische Entzündungsvorgänge unterhalten, die zu Insulinresistenz und Störungen der Sättigungsregulation führen können („inflammation theory“).
