Zusammenfassung

In diesem Kapitel werden nationale und internationale Daten zur Mortalität, Morbidität und Langzeitentwicklung von Frühgeborenen zusammengefasst. Die Überlebensrate ist in den vergangenen Dekaden kontinuierlich gestiegen, ohne dass die Rate an schwerer Morbidität zugenommen hat. Eine der wichtigsten Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung der Prognose ist die Regionalisierung von Risikogeburten, d. h. der präpartale Transport von Schwangeren mit Risiken in ein personell und technisch entsprechend dafür ausgestattetes großes Zentrum. Zur Qualitätssicherung gehören die konsequente und komplette Erfassung und Dokumentation aller sehr unreifen Frühgeborenen und ihre kontinuierliche Nachuntersuchung bis ins Erwachsenenalter.
