It was an honor to deliver the keynote address at the 2012 Co-hosted 18th Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Epidemiology Conference and 22nd CityMatCH Urban MCH Leadership Conference. This conference brought together a broad coalition of MCH leaders and partners, each with vital roles in the advancement of MCH data, practice, and policy. During the keynote entitled “We Can Do Better,” I proposed a working vision on how together we can improve MCH: “We are going to improve maternal and child health in our nation by improving access, quality, integration, accountability, and equity.” With the help of my co-author Jessica Jones, this commentary summarizes that keynote address. …
