Spiegel, a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal since 1985, and Professor of Preventive Medicine and Community Health at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, passed away on December 31, 2006, at the age of 79. A leading authority in the fields of health care administration, health policy and management, and community health, he was also a highly respected medical historian with a nationally recognized expertise in the medical-legal practice of Abraham Lincoln. …
