CT coronary angiography (CTA) continues to develop. There have been improvements in scanner hardware, both by increasing number of detectors (256 or 320) allowing whole heart coverage without any table movement and in temporal resolution (both dual source technology and faster gantry rotation times) facilitating scanning of patients with faster heart rates, often without the need for pharmacological rate control. Scanning software has also evolved enabling both dose reduction in the redundant portion of the cardiac cycle (where the coronary arteries are moving most rapidly) and ECG recognition algorithms preventing acquisition on ectopic or aberrant heart beats. …
