The structure of bone determines the loads it tolerates. The reverse also applies—the loads imposed on bone determine its structure [13]. This remarkable phenomenon of adaptation is achieved by the cellular machinery of bone modeling and remodeling. Bone modelling is the construction of the skeleton by bone formation without prior bone resorption. Bone remodelling is the reconstruction of the skeleton by bone resorption followed by bone formation at discrete points on the endosteal envelope, and to a lesser extent on the periosteal envelope [5]. …
