Single gene(mendelian) disorders with clearly identified and profound effects provide the most dramatic examples of genotype-phenotype relations. An example in the case of coronary atherosclerosis is familial hypercholesterolemia [1,2]; however, in a majority of instances, atherosclerosis, and its most clinically important phenotype, thrombosis, is the result of complex traits (gene–gene, gene–environment interactions) (Reviewed in reference 3). …
